Two Detained Over Upside-Down Malaysian and Johor Flags

Two people, a Nepalese man and a local woman, have been arrested to assist investigations after the Malaysian and Johor flags were allegedly displayed upside down at a factory in Indahpura, Kulai.

Kulai OCPD Asst Comm Tan Seng Lee said the suspects, aged 34 and 48, were arrested at 10.45am on Monday after police detected images of the incident circulating on social media.

The man, who works as a security guard, is believed to have put up the flags. The woman is suspected of handing him the flags and instructing him to display them.

Police also seized one Malaysian flag, one Johor state flag and a work schedule.

Both suspects have no previous criminal records and tested negative for drugs. They have been remanded for four days until Aug 21.

The case is being investigated under several laws, including the National Emblems and Names Act, the Minor Offences Act, the Penal Code, the Communications and Multimedia Act and the Immigration Act.

The factory was temporarily closed by the Kulai Municipal Council after images of the upside-down flags went viral on social media.
