Police in Penang have destroyed case items worth an estimated RM13.6 million, involving 2,436 investigation papers.
Penang police chief Datuk Dennis Lim said the items came from the Criminal Investigation Department, Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department and Commercial Crime Investigation Department.
The destroyed items included drugs, ketum, Bitcoin machines, cigarettes, alcohol and gambling-related items.
The Criminal Investigation Department disposed of items worth about RM800,000, including 177 Bitcoin machines, 2,080 bottles of alcohol, 1,183 cartons of cigarettes, simulator machines, portable printers and mobile phones.
Meanwhile, narcotics case items worth about RM11.5 million were also destroyed, including nearly 1,995kg of drugs and ketum, 666 litres of drug-related liquid and drug-processing equipment.
Commercial crime case items worth about RM1.3 million were also disposed of.
Police said all the items had received disposal orders before the process was carried out. Electronic waste and chemical materials will be handled by companies registered with the Department of Environment.
