A 30-year-old gardener was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today with the murder of his ex-girlfriend’s boyfriend in an incident last week.
The accused, Mohammad Farizzal Mohd Zulkifli, nodded in understanding when the charge was read before Magistrate Mohd Harith Mohd Mazlan. No plea was recorded as murder cases fall under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
According to the charge, he is accused of causing the death of Muhammad Fahmi Abdullah, a 29-year-old contractor, along Jalan Trans Perak in Perak Tengah district between 4.30am and 5.49am on June 10.
The offence falls under Section 302 of the Malaysian Penal Code, which carries the death penalty or imprisonment of not less than 30 years and not more than 40 years, and, if not sentenced to death, also whipping of not less than 12 strokes upon conviction.
No bail was granted, and the court fixed July 20 for mention pending the post-mortem report.
The prosecution was conducted by Inspector Jagdeep Singh Jaswant Singh, while the accused was unrepresented.
Police earlier reported that the suspect, linked to a fatal stabbing at Kilometer 12, Jalan Trans Perak near Kampung Gajah, was arrested at the Perlis Sentral Bus Terminal in Kangar at about 3.35pm on Wednesday.
Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said the arrest was carried out by officers from the Perak and Perlis Criminal Investigation Departments.
