The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) has dismantled four major drug trafficking syndicates and arrested 16 suspects, its director Commissioner Datuk Hussein Omar Khan announced.
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, Hussein said the arrests were made through four operations known as Op Kesing, Op Madarini, Op Eristalis and Op Waja. The suspects include both Malaysians and foreigners. Among those arrested were a serving police officer and a suspended police officer.
Raids were carried out in Cheras, Kajang, Gombak, Klang Utara, Sentul and Sabak Bernam. Police seized large quantities of drugs, including MDMA in vape liquid form, methamphetamine, ketamine, ecstasy pills and Erimin 5 pills. The total value of the drugs seized was RM67.3 million, Hussein said.
Investigations found that the syndicates imported raw materials for drug production from overseas by falsely declaring them as fruit juice and jewellery. The materials were later stored at a fish processing factory and residential houses before being prepared for distribution in the local market and smuggled to neighbouring countries by sea.
All 16 suspects are being investigated under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Hussein said those found guilty could face the death penalty or life imprisonment, as well as whipping. He also warned that no compromise would be made against those involved in the case, including police personnel.
