ViuTV Host Lillian Sze Dies After Ovarian Cancer Battle

Television host and actress Lillian Sze, known for her work with ViuTV, died on Sunday morning, June 21, following a battle with ovarian cancer.

The news was announced by her boyfriend Kay Chan, along with family and close friends, in an Instagram post, which said she passed away peacefully in the morning surrounded by loved ones.

“Whether in her hosting work or her daily life, Lillian always faced everything with a positive and optimistic attitude,” the statement read.

Sze was also an actress and event emcee, fluent in English, Mandarin, Cantonese and Korean, and had previously hosted fan meetings for South Korean artistes.

She revealed in late May that she had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer after a tumour was discovered in October. She underwent two surgeries in February to remove tumours measuring up to 17cm.

In April, she had a hysterectomy and later disclosed that her condition was more serious than initially believed, requiring the use of an artificial stoma.

In a Threads post on June 9, Sze thanked supporters for their well-wishes and said she was preparing for a second round of chemotherapy. However, in an update on June 17, she revealed her condition had worsened and she would be placed on palliative care, as she was no longer fit for chemotherapy.

“But I want to be of use to others, so I’ve applied to be a body donor,” she wrote.

Following her passing, tributes have poured in across her Threads and Instagram accounts, with fans and colleagues honouring her work and extending condolences to her family.
