The long-awaited ferry service linking Kuala Perlis and Satun, southern Thailand, is expected to begin operations within the next one to two weeks, Perlis Menteri Besar Abu Bakar Hamzah said.
The service will initially operate one or two daily return trips from the Kuala Perlis Ferry Terminal, with a trial phase set to commence first. The project will be rolled out in three stages, including infrastructure upgrades such as a floating jetty and the eventual development of an integrated ferry terminal complex.
Originally scheduled to launch in May, the service was delayed due to technical and border security requirements. Discussions on ticket prices are in their final stage, while the state government is also planning parking facilities and preparing legislation to regulate service charges for ferry operators.
Construction of the integrated terminal is expected to begin within the next few months.
