Remand extended for suspect in body-found-in-mattress murder case

The remand order for a suspect linked to a murder case involving a decomposed body found wrapped in a mattress has been extended by another seven days.

Dzulkhairi Mukhtar said the extended remand period for the 40-year-old male suspect is necessary to facilitate ongoing investigations.

“Police are still awaiting instructions from the Public Prosecutor’s Office regarding further action,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

The case came to light on May 28 when a decomposed body, with its hands tied together, was discovered wrapped in a mattress inside a shophouse in Pokok Mangga.

Investigators believe the victim had been dead for more than two weeks due to the advanced state of decomposition.

The body was found by the owner of the premises, who had gone to inspect the property after being unable to contact the tenant.

Police subsequently arrested a 40-year-old man to assist in the investigation. The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
