Police have arrested a 30-year-old suspect within 24 hours for allegedly stabbing a man to death and raping his former girlfriend in Kampung Gajah, according to Perak Police Chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin.
The incident began on Tuesday morning when the suspect allegedly invited his 25-year-old former girlfriend to a paddy field area to talk. Once there, he is believed to have threatened and sexually assaulted the woman inside his car.
In the early hours of the following day, the woman’s current boyfriend arrived at the location and intercepted the suspect’s vehicle. A confrontation subsequently broke out between the two men, during which the suspect allegedly stabbed the victim in the abdomen, killing him. The suspect then fled the scene in the victim’s car.
Speaking at a press conference in Ipoh, Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin said officers from the Criminal Investigation Departments of Perak and Perlis launched a joint operation and successfully apprehended the suspect at approximately 3.45pm yesterday at the Perlis Sentral Bus Terminal.
The police chief added that investigators had obtained a court order to remand the suspect for seven days to facilitate investigations under provisions related to murder and rape offences.
Investigations are ongoing.
