MP Welcomes Baby After Wife’s Water Breaks at Parade

Singapore MP Tan Kiat How had an unexpected National Day celebration after his wife’s water broke during the National Day Parade, before the couple welcomed their third child the following morning.

Tan, the East Coast GRC MP, announced on Facebook today that their baby boy, Micah, had been born that morning. He described the newborn as the family’s “best National Day gift”.

Tan said his wife’s water started leaking towards the end of the parade, but the couple stayed until the celebrations ended so their two older children, Isaac and Ayla, could enjoy the fireworks and pledge.

After the parade, Tan took his wife to hospital after first dropping their two children at home.

Micah was born the following morning.

Tan expressed his gratitude to the medical team who cared for his wife and newborn son, and welcomed Micah as the newest member of the family.

Tan, who is Senior Minister of State for Digital Development and Information and Health, is now a father of three.

He previously announced the birth of his daughter Ayla in October 2023. His eldest child, Isaac, celebrated his sixth birthday on Aug 5.
