Fourteen items seized from the home of Sungai Besar Umno chief Jamal Yunos will be auctioned on June 22 to recover outstanding payments linked to a defamation suit filed by Seputeh MP Teresa Kok.
The auction will proceed after the High Court dismissed interpleader applications filed by Jamal’s son and brother-in-law, who had claimed ownership of the seized items.
Kok’s lawyer, SN Nair, said the court also ordered the applicants to pay RM10,000 in costs.
“There is no longer any impediment to the execution proceedings,” Nair said.
In 2022, the High Court ordered Jamal to pay more than RM300,000 in damages and costs to Kok in the defamation case.
Although Jamal deposited RM300,000 into a stakeholder’s account pending an appeal, an outstanding balance of RM66,061.65, comprising costs and interest, remained unpaid.
Kok subsequently obtained a writ of seizure and sale to recover the remaining amount.
