At least nine people, including a child, were killed after a fire broke out at a budget hotel in Kolkata, India.
Thick smoke filled the building, with some victims found in bathrooms. Nine other people — six men, two women and a child — were rescued and taken to hospital.
Preliminary information suggests an air conditioner may have exploded and triggered the blaze. About 60 guests were in the hotel when the fire broke out.
Authorities are still confirming the nationalities of some victims, who may include Bangladeshi nationals who had travelled to Kolkata for medical treatment.
