Green Tea Daily May Help Lower Blood Pressure

A recent study suggests that drinking green tea regularly may help lower blood pressure by around 1 mmHg, supporting its role as part of a heart-healthy lifestyle. Researchers reviewed 36 randomised controlled trials involving adults and found consistent green tea consumption was linked to small but statistically significant reductions in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure.

The review, published in the journal Blood Pressure, also noted that green tea contains antioxidants such as EGCG and catechins, which may contribute to its health benefits. However, researchers said more studies are needed to determine the most effective dose and form of green tea.

Besides supporting heart health, green tea has also been associated with reduced inflammation, improved blood sugar and cholesterol control, better brain health, improved digestion and a lower risk of cancer. Health experts emphasised that green tea should complement, not replace, healthy habits such as eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly, getting enough sleep and managing stress.
