The East Coast Rail Link, or ECRL, connecting Tumpat in Kelantan and Gombak in Selangor, may begin operations in December, a month earlier than the January target.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the ministry is looking at ways to speed up testing and approval processes without compromising safety.
A key step is the Fault-Free Run test, which usually takes two to three months. The ministry is studying whether the process can be shortened based on practices in other countries.
Loke said all 10 ECRL train sets must complete the required tests before the service begins. Five train sets have arrived in Malaysia, while the remaining units are expected in the coming months.
