Municipal council inspectors discovered a dead rat next to a refrigerator at a tomyam restaurant in Bemban during an enforcement operation by the local authority, a premises that has previously been issued 24 compounds.
The Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council president, Sapiah Haron, said the finding was made during Op Santap, an operation carried out by the council’s Licensing and Enforcement departments targeting food premises in Batu Berendam and Bemban.
She said the restaurant located in Taman Bemban Utama was found to be in an unsatisfactory condition and had failed to comply with required hygiene standards.
“Our inspectors found a dead rat next to a refrigerator storing raw food items,” she said.
“This is deeply concerning, as hygiene and food safety must always be the top priority for every food operator.”
Sapiah added that the premises had a poor compliance record, with 12 compounds still outstanding out of a total of 24 issued.
She said most compounds issued to food operators were related to non-compliance with licensing conditions.
“Nevertheless, the council will continue regular monitoring and enforcement to ensure businesses operate in a safe, orderly and compliant manner,” she added.
