Anthony Loke Offers to Resign as Transport Minister Over Najib House Arrest

DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke has offered to resign as Transport Minister following the decision allowing former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

Loke announced his decision after a three-hour meeting of DAP’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) today. He said he would be the only DAP Cabinet member stepping down at this stage, while other DAP ministers would remain in the unity government.

He said his resignation would be submitted to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

The decision came a day after the Federal Territories Pardons Board approved Najib’s conditional house arrest, subject to a RM50 million fine, with the arrangement running until Aug 23, 2028.

Loke had earlier said DAP respected the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s constitutional power to grant pardons, while maintaining the party’s position on the rule of law and the fight against corruption.

He also said the other DAP ministers would continue serving in the Cabinet, while the party’s CEC had not instructed other leaders to resign.
