Veteran climber Lincoln Hall was abandoned near the summit of Mount Everest after being presumed dead at an altitude of 8,700 metres while descending the world’s highest peak 20 years ago, according to reports by Gripped.
Hall reportedly became critically ill due to a severe altitude-related condition believed to be cerebral edema, which caused hallucinations and extreme confusion.
Reports said Sherpa guides spent several hours attempting to rescue him. However, as night fell, oxygen supplies dwindled and a snowstorm began to intensify.
With conditions rapidly deteriorating, the team was forced to leave Hall behind after concluding that he had died. They subsequently returned to camp, and an announcement was issued informing his friends and family that he had passed away.
