The Federal Court’s decision on the prosecution’s final appeal against the acquittal of Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman, which was scheduled to be delivered today, has been postponed to July 13 after one member of the three-judge panel went on sick leave.
Court of Appeal President Datuk Seri Abu Bakar Jais, who chaired the Federal Court panel, said the court had completed its decision but was unable to deliver the verdict in the absence of one of the judges.
“I and Yang Arif Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah are in court, but Yang Arif Datuk Che Ruzima is not with us because we were informed that he is unwell and is on sick leave for today and tomorrow. It would not be appropriate to deliver the decision without one panel member,” he said.
The three-member Federal Court bench comprises Abu Bakar, Collin Lawrence Sequerah and Datuk Che Ruzima Ghazali. The court has fixed July 13 for the delivery of its decision.
