Former human resources minister M Saravanan has questioned why his 12-year-old son was involved in the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) asset declaration process.
Saravanan said he would cooperate with the agency but questioned the need for his young son to be involved in receiving the notice.
The MACC had announced that asset declaration notices would be issued to Saravanan, his wife and their three children under Section 36 of the MACC Act 2009. They were given 30 days to submit the required declarations.
The development comes after Saravanan, 58, pleaded not guilty in August to three charges of allegedly receiving RM1.097 million in bribes linked to the approval of foreign worker quotas. The case is scheduled for mention on Sept 29.
Saravanan has denied wrongdoing and said he is confident the legal process will establish the facts of the case.
