Severe flooding triggered by Typhoon Maysak in early July has left 159 people dead and 10 missing in two cities in south China’s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, local authorities announced Friday, reported Xinhua.
The flooding, caused by torrential rains brought by the typhoon, affected more than 1.65 million people in Nanning, the regional capital, and Guigang, according to post-disaster recovery and construction work conferences held in the two cities.
The two cities have shifted their focus to post-disaster recovery and reconstruction, as well as enhancing disaster prevention, mitigation and relief capacities.
Guangxi was battered by historically rare, extensive and prolonged heavy rainfall in early July as Typhoon Maysak swept through the region, triggering severe flooding. Â
