Singapore, Indonesia Deepen Energy Partnership with Cross-Border Electricity Plans

Singapore and Indonesia are set to strengthen cooperation in renewable energy as both countries move forward with plans to unlock Indonesia’s vast clean energy potential.

Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said recent developments in West Asia highlighted the importance of energy security and diversification.

During the annual Indonesia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat in Jakarta, Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund Danantara signed agreements with Keppel Electric, Sembcorp Industries and Singapore Energy Interconnections to advance cross-border electricity cooperation.

Wong said the collaboration would create a roadmap for negotiations on a Singapore-Indonesia electricity project, which he described as a “win-win” partnership and a key step towards a wider ASEAN power grid.

He also reaffirmed Singapore’s commitment to working closely with Indonesia to strengthen regional development and ASEAN cooperation as Singapore prepares to chair ASEAN next year.

The agreements cover areas including carbon credits, electricity exports, transmission infrastructure, environmental cooperation, digital collaboration and technical exchanges on nuclear matters.

Both leaders also welcomed new cooperation in financial technology, healthcare, research, women empowerment, child protection, debt restructuring and regional supply chain integration
