SAMARAHAN ONLY AREA WITH ‘VERY UNHEALTHY’ API READING AS OF 8 AM

No areas recorded hazardous Air Pollutant Index (API) readings due to haze as of 8 am today, although Samarahan in Sarawak was the only area to record a ‘very unhealthy’ reading at 226.

According to the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, 40 areas nationwide recorded ‘unhealthy’ API readings, while 24 areas recorded ‘moderate’ readings and two areas recorded ‘good’ readings.

Sarawak remained the worst-affected state, with 11 areas recording unhealthy API readings, namely Sarikei (194), IPD Serian (193), Kuching (192), Sibu (183), Sri Aman (183), Mukah (182), Samalaju (179), Bintulu (172), ILP Miri (169), Miri (166) and Limbang (149).

Meanwhile, six areas in Selangor, namely Johan Setia (184), Shah Alam (166), Petaling Jaya (158), Klang (158), Kuala Selangor (157) and Banting (158), as well as Batu Muda (163) and Cheras (160) in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya (163) and Labuan (157), also recorded unhealthy API readings.

Other areas in the same category included Temerloh (153) and Jerantut (140) in Pahang; Nilai (166), Seremban (164) and Port Dickson (125) in Negeri Sembilan; and Kota Kinabalu (153) and Kimanis (153) in Sabah.

In the south, unhealthy air quality was also recorded in Segamat (157), Tangkak (154), Batu Pahat (157) and Kluang (151) in Johor, while in Melaka, the areas affected were Alor Gajah (154), Bukit Rambai (154) and Bandaraya Melaka (111).

Perak recorded five areas with ‘unhealthy API readings, namely Tanjung Malim (160), Seri Manjung (159), Tasek Ipoh (156), Pegoh Ipoh (152) and Taiping (132).
