A commotion broke out in the Bandar Scientex residential area in Merlimau after a massage therapist and her husband were mistakenly suspected of attempting to break into a house. Police received a report of a dispute at around 8.30pm on Wednesday and responded to the scene shortly after.
Jasin District Police Chief Superintendent Lee Robert said officers found several residents arguing with the couple before instructing the crowd to disperse. Investigations later revealed that the incident was caused by a misunderstanding.
According to police, the couple had previously gone to the wrong address while searching for a client’s house on June 8, leading some residents to become suspicious after seeing them ask homeowners for directions.
The situation escalated when the same vehicle was spotted in the neighborhood again on Wednesday evening. While the husband waited in the car, his wife was providing postnatal massage services to a client inside a nearby house. Residents approached the vehicle, resulting in a verbal confrontation that attracted a crowd.
Police said discussions between all parties clarified the misunderstanding, and those involved subsequently reconciled. No criminal activity or attempted break-in had occurred. Authorities thanked residents for their vigilance but urged the public to report suspicious incidents to police rather than taking matters into their own hands.
