The implementation of the Bumiputera Economic Transformation Plan 2035 (PuTERA35) has reached 68.55 per cent as of Aug 31, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.
Ahmad Zahid, who is also Rural and Regional Development Minister, said in a Facebook post today that 628 development programmes had been initiated by the relevant ministries and agencies, with 214 completed and another 318 in the implementation phase.
He said the implementation momentum must continue to be strengthened to ensure that its benefits truly reached the target groups.
“To me, the success of PuTERA35 cannot be measured solely by the number of programmes implemented.
“The measure is the extent to which we succeed in enhancing Bumiputera economic ownership, control and competitiveness, while ensuring that every policy implemented delivers the best possible benefits to the people and the country,” he said.
Earlier, Ahmad Zahid chaired the Bumiputera Economic Council Steering Committee meeting, which focused on strengthening Bumiputera economic resilience and accelerating the implementation of PuTERA35 towards clear and measurable outcomes.
He said the meeting also discussed efforts to strengthen the Bumiputera entrepreneur ecosystem, including follow-up measures on the seven declarations from the Bumiputera Entrepreneurs Convention 2035.
The declarations place emphasis, among other things, on the development of women entrepreneurs, the creation of “Bumiputera Champions”, the expansion of export markets, and the strengthening of integrity and governance.
