The Penang government may suspend outdoor activities if air quality worsens, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said.
He said the state was monitoring the situation and would consider appropriate action if the Air Pollutant Index (API) reached an unhealthy level.
Chow said schools and other parties may be advised to stop or suspend outdoor activities if air quality conditions deteriorate further.
He said the matter was being monitored closely, with updates also being received from the relevant authorities.
The situation is of public concern as worsening air quality could affect outdoor activities and public health, particularly for those who spend long periods outside.
