Nomination Closes, Campaign Officially Begins

The nomination process for the 16th Johor state election officially concluded at 10am on Saturday (June 27), following the closure of all 56 nomination centres across the state.

The one-hour nomination period, which began at 9am, ended as returning officers (ROs) declared the close of submissions at their respective centres.

Focus now shifts to the Election Commission’s (EC) official announcement of the confirmed list of candidates and the number of contestants for each of the 56 state seats.

With nominations completed, the 14-day campaign period officially begins and will run until 11.59pm on July 10, ahead of polling day.

Supporters from various political parties turned up at several nomination centres to accompany their candidates, creating a lively but orderly atmosphere.

Security remained tight throughout the nomination process, with police, assisted by the People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela), maintaining calm and ensuring there were no incidents of provocation or disruption.

The EC has scheduled early voting for July 7, while polling day will take place on July 11.

A total of 2,727,926 registered voters are eligible to cast their ballots, comprising 2,703,175 ordinary voters, 12,041 military personnel and their spouses, as well as 12,710 police personnel and their spouses.
