Kulim Family Dispute Turns Tragic, Woman Dies; Husband Surrenders

A 39-year-old woman died following an alleged domestic dispute at Taman Tiram here, reportedly linked to family problems and jealousy.

Kulim District Police Chief Superintendent Samsul bin Sinring said the suspect went to the Lunas Police Station at about 8.40pm yesterday and informed police that he had assaulted his wife at their home using a folding knife.

The victim was identified as Sheela a/p Subramaniam, 39.

Preliminary investigations found that the woman had sustained multiple stab wounds during the incident.

Police said the suspect handed over a folding knife, measuring about 20 centimetres in length, which is believed to have been used in the incident.

After the incident, the suspect reportedly handed his child to a relative before going to the police station to surrender himself.

The woman was taken to Kulim Hospital for treatment but was later pronounced dead at about 9.30pm.

Meanwhile, the forensic team investigating the scene collected 11 pieces of evidence.

A urine test conducted on the suspect found no indication of drug use. Police also said he had no previous criminal record.

The victim’s body was subsequently sent to Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar for a post-mortem examination.

Samsul said the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
