Immigration Dept Arrests 62 Foreign Nationals in Selangor Enforcement Sweep

The Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) detained 62 foreign nationals in a special enforcement operation carried out across several locations in Selangor on June 15 for suspected misuse and violation of immigration pass conditions.

Immigration Director-General Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the operation involved 30 enforcement officers and was conducted in Cyberjaya, Bandar Seri Putra, Bandar Teknologi Kajang, Seri Kembangan, Sepang and Dengkil, based on intelligence and public information.

A total of 17 premises — including furniture factories, timber workshops, eateries, grocery shops and street vending areas — were inspected during the operation.

“Out of 210 individuals checked, 62 foreign nationals were detained for suspected offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Immigration Regulations 1963,” he said in a statement.

Zakaria said preliminary investigations indicated that some of those detained had misused their visit passes by engaging in employment or activities not aligned with their original entry purpose.

He added that 11 compounds were issued to employers to assist further investigations into foreign worker employment and compliance with immigration laws.

All detainees have been taken to the Putrajaya Immigration Depot for documentation, investigation and further action.

Zakaria also reminded employers to comply strictly with immigration regulations, warning that firm action would be taken against those found hiring, harbouring or assisting foreigners who violate pass conditions.
