Four Dead as ‘Unprecedented’ Rain Batters Eastern Japan

At least four people have died after unprecedented heavy rain hit eastern Japan, causing floods, power outages and major transport disruption.

The downpour left around 6,000 people stranded overnight at Narita Airport, while thousands of homes in Chiba Prefecture lost power.

Authorities said several homes were flooded, while hundreds of people spent the night in shelters after train services were suspended.

Japan’s weather agency had issued its highest-level heavy rain warning for the Chiba region before later downgrading it.
