Police are tracking down an individual dressed in a dark robe who allegedly climbed over a fence and stole clothes hanging out to dry at a terrace house in Taman Cheras Indah yesterday.
Ampang Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Khairul Anuar Khalid said authorities became aware of the incident after a video of the theft went viral at about 5pm.
Following the discovery, a police report was lodged by a 31-year-old woman on the same day after she noticed that clothes left to dry outside her home had gone missing.
“The complainant stated that she became aware of the incident at around 10am while she was at home.
“A review of the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage found that an individual wearing a dark-coloured robe climbed over the fence, entered the house compound and took the complainant’s clothes from the drying area,” he said in a statement today.
Khairul Anuar said initial investigations found that only the clothes had been stolen and no other items were reported missing.
He added that further investigations are ongoing and efforts to locate the suspect are continuing.
“The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft and Section 447 of the Penal Code for criminal trespass,” he said.
