Diana’s Brother Sparks Controversy With New Memoir

A new memoir by Charles Spencer, the younger brother of the late Princess Diana, has sparked controversy after making several claims about King Charles III and the British royal family.

The book, Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, was released on Tuesday, nearly three decades after Diana’s death in a 1997 car crash.

In the memoir, Spencer claims that then-Prince Charles told him after Diana’s death that “we’ll forget her soon enough”. He also alleges that Charles appeared unusually pleased during a phone conversation following Diana’s death.

Buckingham Palace responded to the claims, saying grief can affect a person’s judgment, memory and recollection of events. Spencer has maintained that his account is accurate.

The 384-page memoir also revisits Diana’s troubled marriage, her relationship with the royal family and the arrangements surrounding her funeral, including the decision for Princes William and Harry to walk behind their mother’s coffin.

The publication has renewed public debate over events surrounding Diana’s life and death, while several claims in the memoir remain disputed.
