Driver Faces Attempted Murder Charge Over Alleged Fire Attack on Worker

A 59-year-old e-hailing driver has claimed trial to attempted murder after allegedly dousing a 62-year-old number forecast outlet worker with petrol and setting her on fire in Kuala Lumpur.

The accused, Ang Kam Tong, pleaded not guilty at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court to the charge involving Gan Siew Teen at an outlet in Taman Pusat Kepong at about 7.51am on Aug 9.

He was charged under Section 307(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum prison sentence of 20 years upon conviction.

The court granted him RM15,000 bail with one surety. The case is set for mention on Sept 25.
