A former Vietnamese politician unintentionally killed a teenager in a traffic accident in central Hanoi last year but was exempted from criminal prosecution, police said.
The case had drawn months of criticism online before police publicly addressed it. The explanation came after people began leaving flowers at the site of the May 2025 crash.
Authorities said the accident and its aftermath had also been exploited by what they described as “hostile forces”
