Two sisters caught the attention of voters at the Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) Chung Hua polling centre in Rantau today after arriving in matching Jalur Gemilang-themed outfits, adding a patriotic touch to the Negeri Sembilan state election.
The Rantau-born siblings said they wanted to combine their civic duty with the spirit of the National Month celebrations, which begin in August.
Eldest sister Zamzarina Basiron, 45, said the idea came naturally as National Day is just around the corner.
“Every year, I wear patriotic-themed outfits during the National Day celebrations. This time, I invited my sisters to join me so we could spread the patriotic spirit while fulfilling our responsibility as voters,” said the teacher.
Their coordinated outfits quickly became a talking point among fellow voters, with many stopping to admire and photograph the trio.
Younger sister Bahirah Basiron, 39, a food entrepreneur, said they spent about two days preparing the outfits and matching them with Jalur Gemilang-themed accessories.
The youngest sibling, Nadzifah Basiron, 36, who works at Hospital Rembau, said work commitments prevented her from preparing a patriotic outfit in time, but she was happy to accompany and support her sisters.
Polling for the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election has been proceeding smoothly today. A total of 859,760 registered voters, including 7,391 postal voters, are eligible to cast their ballots.
The Election Commission expects voter turnout to reach between 72 and 75 per cent, with preliminary results expected from 10pm and the full official results before midnight.
