Severe Storms and Flooding Kill 10 Across China as Extreme Weather Hits Multiple Regions

At least 10 people have died in China after powerful thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy flooding struck central and southern regions, state media reported Tuesday.

In central China’s Hubei province, severe convective weather swept through several areas on Monday, killing eight people in cities including Huangshi and Huanggang, according to state broadcaster CCTV.

Tornadoes were also reported in some locations, while one person remains missing. Rescue teams are continuing operations as authorities assess the extent of the damage.

Meanwhile, heavy rains and flooding linked to Typhoon Maysak killed at least two people in southern Guangxi region. More than 48,000 residents were evacuated as rising waters forced authorities to strengthen emergency responses.

Officials in Guangxi’s capital Nanning raised flood control measures to the highest level after torrential rainfall caused rivers and dams to overflow.

China frequently experiences extreme weather during the summer months, with some regions facing intense rainfall and flooding while others endure severe heatwaves.

Scientists have warned that climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of extreme weather events as global temperatures continue to rise.
