The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) continued to showcase the strength of its youth development programme after its players captured all four Under-16 titles at the Affin 100Plus Junior Elite Tour Finals held at Stadium Juara, Bukit Kiara, on Sunday.
The standout performance came from Chong Lee Qian, who battled back from a game down to defeat fellow national player Ng Hao Tong 18-21, 21-8, 21-11 in a 60-minute boys’ singles final.
The victory marked Lee Qian’s first national title of the year.
In the girls’ singles event, Mirza Batrisyia Aghnia Nazri emerged champion after overcoming Chua Jing Xuan 21-12, 14-21, 21-16 in a hard-fought three-game encounter.
BAM also dominated the doubles events.
Teoh Chong Yee and Tze Han Wong secured the boys’ doubles crown with a convincing 21-7, 21-14 victory over Selangor pair Max Foo and Yong Kiat Song in just 35 minutes.
Meanwhile, Leong Hwee Ling and Teo Min Yi completed BAM’s clean sweep by winning the girls’ doubles title after defeating Putrajaya’s Nur Iffah Husna Mohd Nasir and Safia Mohd Ishraf Nuha 21-13, 21-10.
The clean sweep highlights the depth of talent emerging from BAM’s junior ranks as the association continues to nurture the next generation of Malaysian badminton stars.
