A video of a gorilla named Kiyomasa at a zoo in Japan has gone viral after the animal was filmed appearing lost in thought following what the zoo described as a disagreement with a female gorilla.
The 62-second clip shows the 13-year-old male gorilla sitting alone on concrete steps, displaying gestures that many viewers found strikingly human-like.
At several moments, Kiyomasa rests his chin on his hand, scratches his head and stares into the distance, prompting comparisons to someone reflecting on a personal conflict or contemplating life’s big questions.
The video sparked a wave of humorous reactions online, with social media users joking that the gorilla looked as though he was replaying an argument in his mind or preparing to write a philosophy book.
While zoo officials said the behaviour may simply be a normal gorilla reaction, the footage has captivated audiences and highlighted the remarkable similarities between primate and human behaviour, making Kiyomasa Japan’s latest internet sensation.
