A 79-year-old woman was seriously injured after she was allegedly attacked with an iron hammer by her 25-year-old grandson in Kampung Kuala Abang, Dungun.
Police said the incident is believed to have occurred after a dispute broke out when the grandmother attempted to stop the suspect from leaving the house where they were living together.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly pushed the elderly woman to the ground before striking her on the head with an iron hammer.
Authorities received information about the incident at about 6.55pm.
The victim was immediately rushed to Dungun Hospital for treatment and is reported to be in stable condition after receiving intensive care.
Police have since seized the iron hammer believed to have been used in the attack.
The suspect, who is believed to possess a mental health patient card, has been arrested and is being investigated.
