13-Year-Old Student Injured in Fall From Third Floor at Kulim School

Police are investigating after a 13-year-old student was seriously injured after falling from the third floor of a secondary school in Kulim, Kedah, on Oct 4.

The incident reportedly occurred at about 3.38pm at Block E of the school. Teachers provided first aid before the student was taken to Kulim Hospital for treatment.

The student suffered several serious injuries, including head bleeding, facial fractures, rib and lung injuries, a spleen injury, pelvic fractures and fractures to both legs. He remains under treatment at the hospital’s emergency department.

Initial police investigations found that academic pressure and concerns about meeting parental expectations may have been among the factors linked to the incident.

The student was also reportedly experiencing stress over his academic performance and upcoming examinations. Police were told that he had posted about education and family-related pressure on social media a day before the incident, although the post was later deleted.

Police are recording statements from teachers, schoolmates and family members to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and the student’s state of mind.

Further statements will be taken from the student if his condition permits, while police are also awaiting a full medical report. The investigation is being conducted under the supervision of Kulim district police chief Superintendent Shamsul Sinring.
