A 10-year-old boy was killed and two other children injured after an unexploded 40-millimeter mortar shell they found in a river detonated in Cotabato province in southern Philippines.
The incident occurred before noon on Monday in the municipality of Arakan, according to local police, as reported by Xinhua.
Police said the children were bathing in the river when they discovered the explosive device.
Investigators believe the blast was triggered after the mortar shell was struck with a rock by one of the children.
The 10-year-old boy died from his injuries, while the two other victims — an eight-year-old girl and an 11-year-old boy — were taken to hospital for treatment.
