Tsunami Alert Lifted in Tawau After Powerful 7.9-Magnitude Quake

The tsunami warning siren activated in several districts, including Tawau, following a powerful 7.9-magnitude earthquake in Mindanao, the Philippines, earlier today has been officially deactivated.

A Bernama survey at the scene found that the siren outside Masjid Al-Kauthar was sounded again at 12.17pm to inform residents that the tsunami threat had ended.

The Tsunami Early Warning System siren was sounded more than 20 times, followed by voice announcements in both Bahasa Malaysia and English stating that there was no longer any tsunami threat.

Earlier, the warning siren had been activated by authorities in response to the earthquake, with its sound clearly heard across several coastal areas, including the densely populated Kampung Titingan settlement.
