Prime Minister Christopher Luxon spoke to reporters in Australia on Friday afternoon after arriving for his annual trans-Tasman leaders’ catch-up.
While in Queensland for the two-day visit, Luxon will sit down with his Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese as well as the Queensland premier and Brisbane 2032 Olympic Committee.
The visit comes with New Zealand’s defence spending in the spotlight after US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth accused New Zealand – among other nations of “freeloading”.
