Suspected “Rames Gang’ Leader Charged

A man believed to be the leader of the notorious “Rames Gang” was charged in the Sessions Court here on Tuesday over alleged involvement in organised criminal activities.

G. Ramesh, 37, was accused of being a member of an organised criminal group known as the “Rames Gang” in the Kuala Muda district between January 2024 and Dec 4, 2025.

The charge was brought under Section 130V(1) of the Penal Code, which carries a prison sentence of between five and 20 years upon conviction.

Ramesh acknowledged the charge when it was read before Judge Sharmila Abdul Samad. However, no plea was recorded as the case falls under the jurisdiction of the High Court.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Vatchira Wong Rui Fern, while the accused was represented by lawyer S. Shathish.

Ramesh was previously arrested under Op Tiga on May 22 following a joint operation involving Malaysian, Indian and Thai authorities. He was detained while on a flight from Bangkok to Hyderabad before being extradited to Malaysia.
