Victims Of Freelance Speaker Case Asked To Come Forward To File Report, Says Fadhlina

The Ministry of Education (MOE) has urged victims associated with the case of a freelance speaker who is being investigated for inappropriate conduct to come forward and report to the authorities to enable appropriate action to be taken.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Fadhlina Sidek, said that reports from victims are very important to assist the authorities in conducting investigations, and to enable the MOE to take action based on the ongoing processes.

“This is very important. If we do not have reports from the authorities, it will make things difficult for us to take action, and we don’t want this matter to continue in the school environment.

“We want our schools to be truly safe in that aspect,” she said to reporters after attending the handover ceremony of completed projects by the Melaka Public Works Department (JKR) to the MOE at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Durian Tunggal here today.

Also present was Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

Commenting further, she said that the MOE takes the issue seriously and will not compromise on the safety of children in schools.

“I have already mentioned that all programmes involving the freelance speaker have been immediately halted to allow for the ongoing investigation.

“We take this seriously, and we ask the children or the victims involved to come forward to the authorities and make a report, while all school parties, including the administrators, take this matter seriously to ensure the safety of the students is always a priority,” she added.

Yesterday, in a statement, Fadhlina directed all school programmes involving a freelance speaker accused of inappropriate behaviour to be immediately stopped to allow for a full investigation.
