Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) since yesterday for observation, according to his son, Tan Sri Mokhzani Mahathir.
Mokhzani said his father is currently in stable condition and there is no cause for concern. He said the decision to admit Dr Mahathir was made so he could receive medical attention following the passing of his wife, Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali.
“The past two days have been very stressful for Tun M. At the moment, he is okay and his condition is not worrying,” Mokhzani was quoted as saying.
Dr Siti Hasmah, 100, passed away at IJN on Sept 28 and was laid to rest at Pusara Negara, Putrajaya, later the same day following a state funeral.
Another son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, previously said Dr Mahathir had remained at IJN with his wife while she was receiving treatment.
Dr Mahathir and Dr Siti Hasmah were married on Aug 5, 1956, and marked their 70th wedding anniversary this year. They have seven children.
