Anwar Witnesses Opening of WorldSkills Shanghai 2026

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim attended the opening ceremony of WorldSkills Shanghai 2026, signalling Malaysia’s support for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET).

The ceremony was officiated by Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Shanghai World Expo Cultural Center on Tuesday night, with government leaders, representatives from participating countries and WorldSkills officials in attendance.

WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 runs from Sept 22 to 27, with the main competition taking place at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC).

The event brings together about 1,400 young skilled professionals from more than 65 countries and regions, competing across 64 skill categories.

Malaysia is represented by 22 participants competing in 21 skill areas under the “Road to Gold” mission, as the country seeks its first gold medal at the global competition.

The event also features the WorldSkills Conference 2026 and an exhibition showcasing skills, technology and innovation.
