Najib Gets Conditional Pardon, Allowed to Serve Sentence Under House Arrest

Former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has been granted a conditional royal pardon allowing him to serve the remainder of his current prison sentence under house arrest.

The decision was made by the Federal Territories Pardons Board, chaired by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, during its meeting at Istana Negara on Friday.

Under the decision, Najib will serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to conditions set by the authorities.

The conditional pardon requires Najib to pay a RM50 million fine, with the pardon subject to forfeiture if the stipulated conditions are not complied with.

Najib, 73, has been serving a prison sentence after being convicted in the SRC International case. His original 12-year sentence was reduced to six years by the Pardons Board in 2024, while his fine was reduced from RM210 million to RM50 million.

The latest decision comes a week after the Pardons Board deferred consideration of Najib’s latest application for a pardon.

In a separate development earlier today, Federal Territories Minister Hannah Yeoh denied signing a purported house-arrest order that had circulated online, describing the document as fake
