The Selangor Government has declared Oct 26 as a replacement public holiday throughout the state in conjunction with the 25th anniversary of the reign of the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah.
State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin said the replacement holiday was declared as the main celebration and special public holiday on Oct 25 falls on a Sunday.
“As the date falls on a Sunday, the following day, Monday, Oct 26, has been declared a replacement public holiday,” he told a press conference at the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Building (SSAAS) here today.
He said the Silver Jubilee celebrations would be held from Sept 28 to Nov 1 as a mark of loyalty, respect and gratitude from the state administration and people under His Royal Highness’ reign.
“Throughout the celebrations, 20 official programmes and events have been lined up, covering community affairs, religious activities, environmental sustainability, infrastructure development and sports.
“The programmes involve the concerted efforts of state and federal government departments, local authorities (PBT), statutory bodies, state government-linked companies (GLCs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs),” he said.
Ahmad Fadzli said the highlight of the celebrations would take place on Oct 25, marking the 25th anniversary of His Royal Highness’ reign, and would feature three main ceremonies.
The three ceremonies are the Inspection of the Guard of Honour accompanied by a 21-gun salute; the Proclamation of Titles and Oath-Taking Ceremony; and the presentation of state awards.
He said several other key community and welfare programmes had also been lined up, including the Menyantuni Anak-Anak Yatim Kembara Semenanjung programme, the opening of the Autism-Friendly Park, the Kita Run and the royal tea reception.
“Religious programmes will also be held, including a yasin recitation and doa selamat, as well as the Multaqa and Forum Perdana Ehwal Islam.
“Heritage and historical documentation programmes include the launch of a special commemorative envelope and stamps, commemorative coins, and the launch of the book ‘Menjulang Takhta’,” he said.
For sports and talent development, Ahmad Fadzli said the programmes included the opening ceremony of the Selangor Polo and Equestrian Club, the Sultan of Selangor Silver Jubilee Cup Polo Championship and an under-15 football league match.
Meanwhile, he said that, in upholding the principles of prudent governance, the state government fully respected Sultan Sharafuddin’s decree that the celebrations be held in a modest and prudent manner, with a strong impact and without wastage.
“The state government prays that all the programmes planned will proceed smoothly and be blessed, and become a historic occasion that further strengthens the bond between the ruler and the people in this beloved state,” he said.
