A major fire broke out at six factories near Chew Jetty early today, raising concern as the blaze was only about 20 metres from homes on the water village.
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow visited the scene this morning to assess the situation.
He said residents of Chew Jetty were fortunate that the fire did not spread to their homes.
Despite the close proximity of the fire, no reports indicated that residents of the jetty had been affected.
Authorities are continuing to assess the situation and the extent of damage caused by the blaze.
