A man trapped inside a tunnel for nine days following devastating floods in Nepal has been rescued alive, in a dramatic rescue operation.
Sanjay Sah was trapped inside a tunnel at the Trishuli 3A Hydropower Project after floods struck the area on August 26.
He reportedly spent nine days inside the dark tunnel without contact with the outside world, waiting for help.
Rescuers heard a human voice coming from inside the tunnel and called out to him, saying, “Don’t panic, we have come to rescue you.”
A voice from inside responded, “Okay.”
The response confirmed that at least one person was still alive inside the tunnel.
Nepal Army and Armed Police Force personnel are continuing efforts to reach and rescue others believed to be trapped inside.
Meanwhile, the floods have reportedly claimed 1,290 lives, while another 4,798 people remain missing.
