A search and rescue operation is underway for a worker believed to have fallen into Sungai Gombak near Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur, this afternoon.
The incident is believed to have occurred at about 2.30pm while two workers were carrying out maintenance work along the riverbank with the help of an excavator.
One of the workers is believed to have accidentally fallen into the river and was possibly swept away by the current.
Members of the public who witnessed the incident immediately alerted the police.
Fire and Rescue Department personnel, assisted by Civil Defence Force members, have since launched a search operation along the river.
The worker’s whereabouts remain unknown, with efforts to locate him still ongoing.
